Scenario Tools
Friday 25 July, 2008 - 00:29:34 GMT
Greetings,

The following page is a list of various items that can be used to either make scenarios, expand scenario design options, or generally just assist in the creation of scenarios of game titles that The Blitz supports.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have any difficulties with any of these, please just go direct to the ftp server located at ftp://209.164.73.216/pub/scenario_tools/. From there navigate to the patches directory and then to the game of your choice.

Instructions for Downloading:
  1. Download the latest updates for your Civil War games.
  2. Set up a temporary folder for Civil War editor.

  5. For instructions on using the Scenario Editor, refer to the cwedit.hlp file.
Remember:
Editors may be used to create scenarios that may be freely distributed, providing that no monetary profit will be required or gained, and scenarios are distributed in a non-commercial manner. TalonSoft has the ultimate rights to all scenarios created from this software.

When starting the scenario editor you will be prompted to edit an existing scenario. If you choose to do this, we STRONGLY recommend that you save your edited scenario with a different scenario file name. If you edit an existing scenario, and save it with the same file name, you may not be able to use future updates.

This is only a scenario editor. There is no map editor or organization editor for these games.

Campaign Series

New Units Creator Utility

TS games prior to WF (and that includes EF) were not encoded. Using the manuals provided by TS with each game, it was relatively simple to understand how units and scenarios were constructed and then make one's own without recourse to an Editor. Since TS started encoding these files with WF, owners of TS games have (generally) found it difficult, if not impossible, to either make new units, or effective orgs, or adjust any of the internal data.

Of TS games we’ve examined, WF offers the most possibilities, so to build our own within the best possible format, we first had to crack the WF encoding system. Now, we generate our own platoon.obx and weapon.pdx files without any coding system. Then we use the standard-issue scenario and map Editors to construct the scenario.

The following utility allows you to create units within the Campaign Series games

Rising Sun Communist Chinese (Allied Side) V3.0 Add-On

This allows scenarios with Communist Chinese units to be created and played with for the Allied side.

Rising Sun Communist Chinese (Axis Side) Add-On

This allows scenarios with Communist Chinese units to be created and played with for the Axis side.

Rising Sun French-Dutch-Thai V2.0 Add-On

This allows scenarios with French, Dutch, or Thai units to be created and played with for the Allied side.

Rising Sun North Korean People's Army V1.0 Add-On

This allows scenarios with the North Korean People's Army units to be created and played with.

EF II Night Graphics

Please Note: There are two versions to the EF II night graphics

Instructions for Downloading:
  1. Download the first file if you own Rising Sun. Copy the included .bmp file and the files I've written down in the HowTo.txt from your RS into your EF2 folder.
  2. Download the second and larger file if you do not own Rising Sun

WF Night Graphics

Please Note: There are two versions to the WF night graphics. These both involve downloading the zip packages for EF2. If you do not own RS then there is an additional WF download. It is recommended that you download the West Front Scenario Equalizer as well. Lastly you will need to be sure that you have the WF 1.06 patch to play night scenarios.

Instructions for Downloading:
  1. Download the first file if you own Rising Sun. Copy the included .bmp file and the files I've written down in the HowTo.txt from your RS into your EF2 folder.
  2. Download the second and third files if you do not own Rising Sun

    Victory Level Calculator

This program is designed to let players know what Victory Level (using differentials) is required to get a particular level of victory (or defeat!) in any scenario.

Simply enter the total # of valued objective points (by totally them from the scenario briefing under the Victory Section) and the program will let you know what Victory Levels (in terms of point spreads) constitute a Draw, Marginal Victory/Defeat, Significant Victory/Defeat and Overwhelming Victory/Defeat.

If you minimise the application to the system taskbar, the application taskbar item will show the points needed for each level- just pass your cursor over it to see them. This way you can switch to your game to see current score and have this information available as you check it.

    Installation

Unzip the files to your TOAW-CW directory (or wherever you have your TOAW exes), or to anywhere you consider appropriate.

The program can be run using START->RUN (you'll need to browse to find and select it) or more easily if you take the time to add it as a shortcut to your TOAW menu or desktop.

    Problems

Please report any problems you may have with the program to chorn@oceanfree.net.

    Enjoy!
